Why the bulb comes out

A landscape light fails at its weakest point — usually the LED or its driver. Sealed shut, neither can be reached, so the unit you replace is the whole fixture: a five-dollar part, a hundred-and-sixty-dollar purchase.

Here the head opens and the MR16 pulls off its two pins. The stake stays buried, the connector stays clipped, and the part you buy is the part that failed.

It does not save you the trip — connections and wire runs fail either way. It decides what you carry in your hand when you get there.

It also makes the beam yours: a narrower or a wider MR16 goes in the same GU5.3 socket.

Where this light goes

It throws a 36° beam up or across. Everything below is about what the beam lands on.

Use it here

Trees One at the base of a small trunk, two on a big one from opposite sides, aimed up into the canopy. For a tall, narrow trunk, a 15° MR16.
House wall, columns Close to the wall, aimed up: the beam grazes the texture.
Shrub mass, statue, flag Behind or beside the subject, so the beam crosses your line of sight instead of following it.
Fence or hedge line Along the base, one per section, aimed along the run.

Not this light — use these

Paths, drives Path light — this one blinds anyone walking toward it.
Steps, deck edges Recessed deck light — sits in the riser.
In the ground, flush Well light — sits at grade, IP67.
Ponds, fountains Pond light, IP68. This one is IP65 and must not stand in water.

How many, and which transformer

Count the subjects, not the feet. Every load below is this light at 5 W, with the transformer sized to 80% of its rating.
Lights Load on the run 200 W transformer 300 W transformer 600 W transformer
2 10 W yes yes yes
4 20 W yes yes yes
8 40 W yes yes yes
16 80 W yes yes yes
32 160 W at the limit yes yes
48 240 W no at the limit yes

A 200 W transformer carries 32 of these, a 300 W carries 48, a 600 W carries 96. One zone for the trees and one for the path is what the 2-zone transformer is for.

One group, everything it takes. Four spotlights on a tree group is 20 W: the 2-Zone Transformer at 200 W with a zone to themselves, and 100 ft of 16 AWG Landscape Wire.

Where each beam lands is a whole-yard question — Plan my yard works three yards end to end.

Putting it in

Lay them out, run the wire past the last one, clip a connector at each, power up and check, then stake them and bury the wire 6 in deep. A trowel and an afternoon for twelve. Step by step

What the numbers mean

36° is a beam you aim, not a glow: on a small tree it lights the canopy and leaves the lawn dark, and 2700 K keeps the bark warm.

The beam belongs to the bulb, not the fixture. A 15° MR16 throws a tight column up a tall trunk; a 60° one spreads across a wall. Any 12 V LED MR16 at 5 W or under fits, and the counts on this page still hold.

5 watts a light: a 200 W transformer runs 32, a 300 W runs 48. Two lights put 10 W on the run; four put 20 W.

The coating is the one part that never comes off — the bulb, the stake and the connector all do — so it is the one we made thick: 70–100 μm, tested to 500 hours in salt spray*. It meets sprinkler water, a trimmer at the base, wet soil, and winter salt.

Questions people ask

The bulb went out — what do I buy?

An MR16, GU5.3, 12 V, 2700 K, not dimmable — the spotlight bulb any hardware store stocks. Ours is the MR16 LED bulb, 5 W, 450 lumens.

Can I change the beam?

Yes — the beam belongs to the bulb. It ships with a 36° MR16; a 15° one throws a tight column up a tall trunk, a 60° one spreads across a wall or a hedge. Any 12 V LED MR16 with GU5.3 pins fits. Keep it at 5 W or under so the counts on this page hold.

Can I turn it sideways?

It tilts through 180°, horizontal to horizontal through straight up. It does not rotate on the stem — to change the direction, turn the stake.

Can it sit in a wet bed?

Rain and snow, yes — IP65, tempered-glass lens on a silicone gasket. Standing water, no. For that use the well light or the pond light.

Is a transformer included?

No. The box has the spotlights, their MR16 bulbs, stakes and two connectors each. They run on a 12 V landscape transformer and direct-burial main wire — ours are the 2-Zone Transformer and Landscape Wire. Already have a system? They go on it.

Will it run on the 12 V transformer I already own?

Input is 12–15 V AC or 12–24 V DC, non-polarized, which covers standard landscape transformers. Never connect it to 120 V.

What is the warranty?

Ten years on the aluminum fixture. The bulb has its own terms on the warranty page. A claim is the order number, the product name and one photo; the replacement ships from the U.S. warehouse. Warranty terms

Can I return it?

Return eligibility, return shipping costs and refund approval are governed by our Return Policy. Contact support@hiboitec.com before sending any item back. For a damaged, missing or faulty item, include your order number, product name and a photo so we can review the issue. Return policy
