A hardscape light mounts under the overhang of a wall cap or a step, out of sight, and throws its light down the face of the wall or onto the tread below. Lit from above like this, a stone wall shows its texture and a step shows its edge, and nobody sees a fixture.

These come twelve to a box, 3 W each, in die-cast aluminum rated IP67, with a mounting plate you can cut to fit the cap and a housing that turns to aim the light. They are integrated LEDs, sealed by design; if one fails, it is replaced whole. For lights along a wall, see Fence & Retaining Wall.
