The recessed light is stainless steel and sits flush in a riser, a stringer or the rim of a deck: drill the hole, set it in, connect it. The rail light mounts on a post and sends its light down onto the boards and treads beside it. Many decks use both: recessed lights on the stairs, rail lights along the edge.
