Ten path lights on for six hours a night use about 66 kWh a year — roughly $12 at the U.S. average rate. Add up the watts of every light on the run, keep the total under 80% of the transformer, and the rest is room for next year's lights.

Counts use 80% of rated load, one fixture type per run. Mixed run: add the watts of every light and stay under 80%. Wire gauge and run length change the answer; the guide covers both.
